Please join the West Michigan Cisco Users Group for our September 29th meeting! Also, please be sure to forward this information to anyone who may be interested in learning more about technology! All are welcome!

We are excited to present this month's topic:

Topic:
Building Networks in Challenging and Unique Environments

There are always some unique challenges that will be encountered when given the task of building a network within a very short time frame in an unknown environment. Now imagine building this high-capacity ad-hoc network in odd places such as tropical islands and in the back halls of 100 year old hotels! Out guest speaker is going to share with us how he has successfully accomplished this task in the past and lessons learned from his most recent event: The North American Network Operators Group (NANOG).

Presentation Overview:

Pete Hoffswell will discuss the various aspects and special considerations needed when designing a wired and wireless network for highly technical conference attendees in a challenging and unique environment. He will touch on infrastructure, wireless, design, traffic management, and monitoring.

Guest Speaker:
Pete Hoffswell - Network Manager - Davenport University

Pete has a 15-year history of successful network design, deployment and management. Having spent several years in network consulting, he has had the opportunity to create many IP networks from the ground up. Pete currently manages the state-wide IP network for Davenport University, overseeing all aspects of IP transport including Layer-2 and Layer-3 services, IP and Internet-edge security, VOIP and WiFi. Pete holds a BA in Computer Science from Southern Illinois University, and numerous technology certifications.
